It’s easy to stay on top of our phone’s battery life, we see it every time we look at the screen. Learning how to take care of your phone battery and lifespan is a little trickier. We don’t notice any changes until it starts to wear out. With water-resistance making removable phone batteries a thing of the past, it’s important to take care of the ones we’ve got to keep them at their best for as long as possible. Here are 3 tips to help you take care of your phone battery so that it lives a long and happy life:
- Keep it charged above 10%. The lithium-ion batteries in our phones use chemical reactions to hold a charge and power our phones. The batteries are most comfortable when they’re between 10% – 99%, and when they reach 0% their chemistry becomes unstable. So unstable that modern batteries will actually disable themselves when they’ve been dead for too long to avoid exploding, seriously. This is why you’ve probably heard that you should never store your phone with a dead battery.
- Keep it at a comfortable temperature. Just like the batteries have a comfy spot percentage-wise, they prefer a certain temperature as well. That comfy spot is between 0 °C and 30 °C. If your phone’s battery gets too hot or too cold, it has to work a lot harder to do its job. This is why your phone dies suddenly in the cold, and shuts off with a warning when it’s too hot.
- Only trust certified chargers. While fast charging is certainly convenient, it can do more harm than good if you use an uncertified charger. Many fast charging cables send more power than your phone can handle – imagine filling a water balloon with a fire hose. This is why Growcharge ensures that our charging stations’ rapid charge technology powers up your device fast, but only as fast as our phones can safely handle.
